5 Week course where you design and build a custom side table
Design and build your own stool/table with instruction. Materials are provided, if you have your own wood that you would like to use for this project please let us know and purchase a discounted ticket. The NESTL Workshop Orientation Class is required to take this class, you may register before that has been completed and schedule an orientation by emailing neseattletoollibrary@gmail.com.
Students will use both hand and machine tools to build this project. Our focus will be on making clean and tight mortise and tenon joints that will be the key visual elements of this furniture piece. The design can be made as is or modified to suit the individual student’s need or preference for a wider, taller, bigger or smaller table.
Students are encouraged to look at the prototype in the NESTL woodshop and think about any modifications they might like to make. This pre-class decision making process will allow us to choose wood, design layouts and start cutting wood in the first class. The five sessions should allow plenty of time to mill wood as needed, fashion, peg and glue the joints, do any needed shaping or sanding and then apply stains and or finishes.
This class is over the course of 5 weeks scheduled on the Friday of each week, please be sure you can make it to all of the class periods and register only for the first date listed, September15th.
