Hand Sewing Repair Basics

Learn how to make the three most commonly-needed, hand sewn repairs: button replacement, patches, and seam repair. We’ll cover several stitches and when to use them, as well as a bunch of tips for smooth sewing. 

How to Sew with a Pattern

Have you ever wondered how to follow a sewing pattern? Come learn! This two-hour demonstration will take you through the ins and outs of measuring, fabric selection, and how to understand all those funny markings and directions. You’ll leave with the confidence to begin a project on your own. (Basic machine sewing knowledge is recommended, but not required.)

Intro to Sketchup

Learn the basics of Sketchp – a free, online ‘CAD’ program- to help plan and visualize your next project.  We will sketch a plywood bookshelf, but your skills can be applied to kitchen/bath remodels, room layout, furniture design, and more!  Prevent mistakes by planning your cuts, and making an assembly list.  No previous CAD or drafting experience required at all.   Required – a computer and a mouse (scrolling wheel on mouse strongly recommended).

Routers Basics

This beginner class will give you the fundamentals for using this versital and sometimes intimidating tool.

Gardening Tool Tune-up

Did you just find last years pruners under the snow? Whether you did or they were hanging where you left them, bring them to this class to clean and sharpen for a new year of gardening. We’ll work on pruners, loppers, hedge clippers, shovels, hoes and axes. We will supply files and sharpening stones but you are welcome to bring the ones you like to use. Some gloves would be good to have as well.

Intro to Power Tools

This three part series is an excellent introduction to all the basic power tools needed to accomplish most wood projects. Get hands on instruction and practice with circular saws, jig saws, reciprocating saws, miter saws, table saws, drill presses, planers, jointers, and maybe a even some bonus tools!

We do have two classes that we require participation in, as a condition for check out of these items. There is no formal scheduling needed for these events, but please plan to have time for these helpful offerings prior to coming in.

Chainsaw Safety Class
Held during our open hours when staff are available @ the Tool Library, Duration: 15-20 min. (mid-shift -preferred)
There is $10 suggested fee for this class.

Pressure Washer Tips
Held when members check out a washer during open hours @ the Tool Library
There is a $10 suggested fee for all loans of this item (funds go to upkeep of the machines)
